Digimon Drama CDs and Davis&Kari in it
Lately I have been rereading the translations of the Digimon Drama CDs and they feel like these filler episodes where they are doing some random stuff that are pretty much always ending in them defeating some evil Digimon. It's a nice read and if you know how to speak Japanese I'm sure they're nice audio stories. You can check all the translations on Digital Scratch (not just Digimon Adventure & 02 - just check it out, it's amazing) and on riahchan's journal. Below you can read a summary of those stories that has something to do with Davis or Kari.Digimon Adventure: Character Song + Mini Drama 1 (デジモンアドベンチャー キャラクターソング＋ミニドラマ１)
TAI, SORA, KARI: In track number 02 Tai and Sora are in their home ec class and are cutting potatoes. Sora takes the potatoes away from Tai since
she believes he is cutting them in the wrong way. Now that Sora is doing his job Tai decides he will fool around and goes to Agumon and tells him
to evolve. Agumon starts spinning more than usual and stops when Sora interrupts the two of them. Suddenly the potatoes start dancing and
singing. They leave the school and Sora, Tai, Biyomon, and Agumon decide to follow them. In front of the entrance to the Rainbow Bridge there is
a sign which reads "Do not cross at this end". Tai evolves to Ikkyuu-san (its a Zen Buddhist monk character who has the same voice actor as Tai
from Digimon - Fujiko Toshita) and sits in the lotus position and starts to meditate. He realizes that instead of crossing at the end,
they can just cross in the middle! There they find a Digimon Jagamon shaped like a potato who is responsible for the potato problem.
Agumon and Biyomon evolve into MetalGreymon and Garudamon and defeat him and get the potatoes back. Tai carries the potatoes back to school.
In track 04 Sora is doing announcements over her school's intercom. She introduces herself and starts to read a letter sent by Kari. Kari says she is a fan of Biyomon's voice actor and she pronounces the name "Kachou-san" because her first name is written with the kanji "flower" and "bird". Biyomon explains the name is pronounced as "Atori". The next letter came from Mimi who asked Sora where did she buy her hat. Sora giggles and tells her that she doesn't know. Sora ends her broadcast by announcing the next track - Ashita wa Motto.
In track 06 and 08, Kari is mentioned by Joe who is thinking about casting Kari in a love triangle in his next CD drama together with Mimi and Izzy. He gets the idea about him getting a singing debut because he defeated Digimon attacking Odaiba and everyone was complimenting him.
Digimon Adventure: Character Song & Mini Drama 2 (デジモンアドベンチャー キャラクターソング＋ミニドラマ２)
TAI, SORA, KARI: In the 02 track Izzy is typing something and Tentomon is interested in what he is doing. Izzy tells him he is writing a love letter. Suddenly Tai jumps
out of the bushes and tries to find out who Izzy is sending it to. Matt tries to stop Tai since he can see Izzy doesn't like that. Soon everyone
else around is interested in the love letter. They try to guess who it is for and talk about the love letters. Izzy uses the opportunity and makes Tentomon evolve to Kabuterim.
At first the children are afraid he will attack them but he uses Kabuterimon to fly away. Kari and T.K. comment about Izzy trying to run away and
together with the rest of the group chases him.
In track 04 they managed to capture Izzy and tie him up. They are still trying to guess who the receiver of that love letter could be. Tai, now dressed as a famous (fictional) private detective Kosuke Kindaichi decides he will solve this case. Since Izzy is writing a love letter Tai concludes it's for one of the girls. Mimi tells the group she knew Izzy likes her and that the others (Tai, Matt, Joe, T.K.) like her too. And if this keeps on going everybody will like her and the whole world will be kneeling before her. Gomamon and Gabumon say if the letter is for Sora he'll be unhappy and everybody agrees with the two of them. Sora is confused by the meaning of this. Joe explains to Tai that if the love letter is for Kari, he would be Izzy's older brother in the future. Tai, not liking this idea, argues that he wouldn't allow their relationship anyway. They decided that the letter is for Mimi but Kari believes they are all wrong.
In track 06 Kari tells everyone that the love letter isn't for Mimi. So Mimi gets mad at her and wants to know what kind of proof she has that the letter is not for her but Kari instead. Kari starts to feel a little feverish and everybody starts staring at Mimi saying she went too far with her criticizing. Mimi still mad talks about how it's always her fault and she is always wrong and how she is not letting Kari get away with everything just because she is a little sick. Biyomon asks Sora if she will not join them in a "fight" and Sora says she is not interested in younger men. Eventually the entire group gets angry at each other and starts arguing. Meanwhile Izzy thanks Tentomon for helping him and tells him for who the love letter is. He tells him but the name is bleeped out but everyone is surprised. In the end Kari asks everyone to listen to her song which is her theme song introduced in the next track.
Digimon Adventure: Character Song + Mini Drama 3 (デジモンアドベンチャー キャラクターソング＋ミニドラマ３)
TAI, SORA, KARI: In the first part the DigiDestined wish us a happy new year and thank us for the support. Since it's the first day of the new year
Sora is interested in what kind of dreams they all had on the first night. Tai and the others soon realized none of them had a dream last
night so Matt, T.K. and their Digimon go to investigate why. They do that in the track number 02 and 04. In the track number 06 the Digidestined
watch their Digimon doing impressions. Agumon breathes fire and no one is excited about it since he does that all the time. Tai asks him to do
something more interesting. Gabumon takes off his fur, Palmon speaks like a cactus, Tentomon speaks without his accent, Biyomon makes bird and
train (Okinawa rail) sounds. Sora is impressed by Biyomon's impressions but Tai asks himself if the Okinawa rail really sounds like that. Gomamon
pretends to be a seal and walrus. Gatomon, all cute, chases her tail to which Kari responds it's out of Gatomon's character. Patamon devolved to
Tokomon and burns a mosquito-repellent inside of its mouth. The children start arguing which impression was the best and since no one thinks
Agumon was good enough he becomes angry and evolves into SkullGreymon which make everyone around screaming and running. And so, their New Year’s
party continued long into the morning.
Digimon Adventure 02 Drama CD: Armor Evolution to the Unknown (デジモンアドベンチャー02 ドラマCD 未知へのアーマー進化)
TAI, DAVIS, SORA, KARI: In the first track Davis explains to Veemon what Valentine's Day is. How it's a day when girls give the boys they like chocolates. Davis
tries to become cool so girls would like him and goes to Matt's place to be in his band. Since he is bad at singing Matt throws him out.
Meanwhile Sora, Mimi, and Kari are shopping. Before going home Biyomon mentions Sora still needs to buy stuff for her homemade chocolate.
The girls start talking about Sora and Matt's relationship which gets Sora embarrassed. She starts swinging her tennis racket at them
and accidentally hits someone. He asks them where he can buy a heart but since they don't understand him they send him to a place that
sells chocolate hearts.
Meanwhile Davis goes to Izzy's place in order to learn how to use computers so he can impress girls with his new knowledge. Izzy agrees to help Davis out. Davis starts to pressing the buttons and hitting the computer and Izzy throws him out like Matt before. Outside he encounters Ken and T.K. and talks to them in an unusual way. Veemon explains to them Davis is trying to change his image to become popular with the girls. T.K. and Ken are against it since they like the old Davis better. In the department store, the strange man is asking for a heart and since they don't sell hearts he attacks the cashier.
In track number 03 Tai changes his hair a little bit since they are searching for Boltmon who has spiky hair and doesn't want to be mistaken for the spiky-haired guy - Boltmon. The children split into two groups. Tai, Matt, and Yolei are staying there and helping the girls get out of the department store while Davis and the rest will try to find Boltmon. Tai, Matt, and Yolei are talking about how to save the girls and decide to send one inside the store as a spy. Since Hawkmon can evolve together with Gatomon who is inside they all agree on sending Yolei inside.
The first group - T.K., Izzy, Cody, and their Digimon are searching for Boltmon and talk about the Japanese dialect and how T.K. is jealous because he can't do any other dialect while others can. Davis, Ken, and Joe are searching for Boltmon in different area. Ken gets mobbed by his fangirls and Davis is asking himself how Ken can be so popular.
Yolei's plan to go inside the store is to dress as a ramen delivery guy. She gets in and tries to help the girls. When Boltmon tries ramen it's actually pretty bad and attacks Yolei. She attacks him and gets caught too and apologizes to Hawkmon for always getting into trouble. In track number 04 the groups meet again in front of the department store. They explain their plan and how Yolei got caught and is now trapped together with other girls. Matt informs them about their new plan how everyone will go inside and tap dance to get Boltmon attention. Davis goes in first and the store is like the Digital World and changes a person's clothes to reflect what they desire. Since Davis wants to be more like Ken - to have a little bit of darkness - he dark evolves to Digimon Emperor.
Meanwhile Mimi offers Boltmon chocolate to let them out. Since he doesn't want the chocolate Sora offers him a homemade chocolate. Biyomon is against it since the chocolate is for Matt. Sora says that's okay and that Matt will understand since everyone's life depends on it. Then they hear everyone else tap dancing. Tai asks Kari if she is okay and Matt tells Sora he loves her. Sora gets teary and is wondering if why everybody is tap-dancing while the girls are in danger. Biyomon says there has to be a deeper meaning for this.
Davis is still Digimon Emperor and tries to act tough like Ken did as Emperor. He tries to hit Veemon but he doesn't want to hurt him. Everybody "boo"s him because he is not evil enough. When he tries to be more evil Wormmon tells Ken to stop him but they don't know how since they can't evolve. The girls say that if he believes, he can change the Crest of Kindness into a Digimental and he manages to do so. Bucchiemon attacks Davis with Heart Beam and turns him back to normal. He thanks Ken and says regular him is still the best him after all and everybody agrees. The Digimon who was behind all that was Pukomon who had taken advantage of Boltmon's situation in order to destroy the DigiDestined. The DigiDestined decide to armor evolve but before they could do that Joe knocks into them, and they drop and mix up their D-Terminals.
In track 05 the 02 DigiDestined mix their D-Terminals. Yolei uses Digi-Egg of Friendship, T.K. Digi-Egg of Light, Cody Digi-Egg of Love, Kari Digi-Egg of Knowledge and Davis Digi-Egg of Hope. Bucchiemon reasons with Boltmon and the kids subsequently fight Pukumon. The attacks of the Armor Digimon send Pukumon fleeing. Boltmon decides that a heart isn't something you can get, it's something you have to give to yourself. He goes back to the Digital World to start over. The DigiDestined are wondering who made him recognize that. The girls thank Davis and go back to fangirling Ken. Davis says that being like Ken is better because of the girls and Veemon comforts him by saying he will find a good girl if he is lucky enough. The Digimon from the original DigiDestined try to Armor evolve too. They can't really do it but they just make up their Armor digitation.
Digimon Adventure 02 Drama CD: The Door into Summer (デジモンアドベンチャー０２ドラマＣＤ 夏への扉)
DAVIS: This Drama CD is happening in summer 2003! Davis and his partner DemiVeemon went to New York because they wanted to see
New York and they hoped that this year will be better than last year - last year they fought Wallace's Digimon partner and they had
to save Tai and his company ...
In the beginning, we found out that this summer wasn't really "nice" to Davis. Kari rejected him (she just refused his invitation to the beach) and he was really sad about it and also he failed at a soccer match. He was also "depressed" because even Cody had a girlfriend - first he wanted to hang out with him.
He met in New York with Mimi (and I didn't know that they have a really good relationship ;D) and Wallace. They were really happy to meet again - I don't know how long Davis didn't see Mimi, but he didn't see Wallace for one year.
Davis started to hear some voices (others didn't hear a thing) and suddenly the entire city falls under the winter. Davis still heard some voices, he followed them and he found a really cute girl who was more interested in Davis than Wallace (he really couldn't understand why is that so). They gave her name - Nat-chan (first DemiVeemon wanted to name her Hikari, but Davis was against it). Nat was really jealous of their relationship - between humans and Digimon. She was really interested in Davis but when he said he didn't want to leave DemiVeemon and others she started to be interested in Wallace. After Davis' getting into a fight with DemiVeemon he went walking. Nat came after him and she was really nice. She also said to him that he is really nice and Davis was really happy because she was the first girl who said that. DemiVeemon interrupted them and he also falls in the river and Davis saved him. They both went back to Mimi and Wallace without Nat. They started to search for her and they found her. She started evolving and roaring. Davis realized that she wanted him as a partner and that she fell really lonely. Davis managed to calm her and after an explosion this winter weather disappeared and there was a DigiEgg (that was Nat). Davis and the others decided to look for her human partner ~ their Digimon partners complained about the heat all the time.
Digimon Adventure 02 Original Story: 2003 -Spring- (デジモンアドベンチャー０２ オリジナルストーリー ２００３年 -春-)
DAVIS: This Drama CD is happening in spring 2003 (At many pages I saw that they write the name of the drama as Summer 2003, but on
the CD there's a Japanese kanji for spring and not summer). So, this Drama is actually after season 2 but before the epilogue. This
happens one year after they became a Digidestined (Davis, Yolei, and Cody).
In Davis' part he talks about goggles, power, Tai ... He said that he remembered a little from that time when he and his family were captured in a Tokyo Big Sight. He remembers Tai on a dinosaur, he remembers his goggles. He was really happy when Tai gave it to him. He said that they make him motivated and he can feel all the power. There is also the voice who is asking him about these goggles and bad Digimon and all that stuff. Davis is answering him - that Tai gave him goggles, that for beating evil Digimon you have to have something more than power - you have to know which Digimon are bad ... After this Davis said that only their group can open the Digital world and that they still have a lot of things to do there and that he had to pass his goggles to another child to motivate him ~ he did that in an epilogue - he gave his goggles to his son.
KARI: In Kari's part she talks about Digimon and their partners. First she describes her Digimon partner (Gatomon/Tailmon). Later she explains to us Digimon's levels. She says that many people get their Digimon when they're baby level, but you can also get one in their child (rookie) level. But we mustn't worry because even if our Digimon is in baby level he'll evolve someday - when he'll get the energy he needs to evolve. She also says that the siblings have the same Digimon, but they can also have different ones (Kari, Tai, T.K. and Matt are currently the only 4 siblings that have different Digimons). She tries to calm us down if we still haven't got our Digimon - we'll get one when we'll be ready. But Digimon aren't here just for fun, if you get one that's because there's something you must do - like saving Earth or Digital world. At the end of her part, she gets a message that Davis' sister just get Digimon partner and so did Yolei's sisters and also Joe's.
Digimon series 1-4 original story special ~with~ (デジモン オリジナルストーリー スペシャル ~with~)
DAVIS: Davis informs us he is trying to get taller so he can't lose to T.K. and Ken. To do so he is drinking 3 liters of milk every day. While
drinking it his stomach starts to hurt so he decides to go and to talk to us another time.
KARI: Kari is really happy to see and talk to us again. She tells us to not forget that we will always have them with us.
Digimon Adventure 15th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX (デジモンアドベンチャー 15th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX)
SORA, KARI: In the first track it's about Gatomon and Wizarmon who were ordered by Vamdemon to journey in search of the Crests.
On the second track it's the summer of 2001. Koushiro was on his way to visit his late parents’ graves, when the Shinkansen he was
riding on went into suspended service due to an unidentified system error. He was stuck at Kyoto station. He meets there with Matt and Joe.
Since there was a problem with the system Izzy asks Gennai if there is a problem in the Digital World. He responds that
something big has happened in Kyoto and it looks like a lot of data has been destroyed. They go to Kyoto's center where they meet up with the
rest of the DigiDestined group except for Tai. There they also meet their Digimon partners. They need them to help to restore the energy balance of
all four directions in Kyoto. Agumon wants to evolve but can't since Tai isn't there. They decide to put Agumon in the middle and holds hands
and Agumon starts to feel their power flowing into him and manages to evolve to Greymon. With his evolution the balance of power is restored. The
naval stone who was turned upside down and was protecting the center of Kyoto before didn't go back to normal. The stone starts to talk about how
he deserves respect for protecting the city. Rosemon's flower power calms the stone down since he likes the sweet scent of it. The stone
goes back to his normal position and the train is moving again. They all go their own way.
Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna on Blu-ray (デジモンアドベンチャー LAST EVOLUTION 絆)
DAVIS, KARI: The drama begins as the 02 DigiDestined kids try to decide where to go for their summer vacation together. They meet at the karaoke manor to make their plans. Davis, T.K.,
Cody, and their Digimon are the first to arrive, and they start ordering drinks and food while waiting for the others. Davis wants everyone to go on a trip together, but the 01 DigiDestined
are busy, so only the 02 kids can go.As they wait, they discuss potential destinations. Davis suggests a "trying good ramen" trip, while the others prefer visiting the ocean or historical cities. When the rest of the group arrives, the girls express interest in going to Spain since Yolei is already there studying. Since they can travel with the help of their Digimon, they try to decide on a second location, but everyone has different preferences.
Davis interrupts, sharing his dream of becoming a ramen shop owner and his desire to try as many different ramen dishes as possible. The group, wanting to support Davis's goal, agrees to let him choose the summer destination. In return, Davis promises to make them his own ramen in the future. Davis chooses New York.
The next part of the story follows Davis, Ken, and Cody as they travel to New York through the Digital Gate. Kari and T.K. are supposed to join them the next day but end up staying in
Tokyo to help Tai and the 01 kids fight and save the world. While in New York, Davis and the group help save the city and manage to visit one ramen shop – Ippudo NY.
Digimon Adventure 02 Best Partner - Last Evolution Kizuna (ベストパートナー「絆」- 本宮大輔＆ブイモン)
In Digimon 02 Best Partner Kizuna, the 02 kids got their own new Best Partner CDs. Each CD features a few songs with their Digimon partners, but the last track is a
short audio drama, which is essentially a conversation between the DigiDestined (Davis/Kari) and their Digimon partners.
DAVIS: V-mon notices Davis making a weird face and asks what's wrong. Davis shows him the soup stock he made and wonders what's missing in it. V-mon replies that the only
thing missing is the spirit, reminding him that he’s supposed to be the man who makes the tastiest noodles in the world. Davis agrees with him.
Digimon Adventure 02 Best Partner - Last Evolution Kizuna (ベストパートナー「絆」- 本宮大輔＆ブイモン)
In Digimon 02 Best Partner Kizuna, the 02 kids got their own new Best Partner CDs. Each CD features a few songs with their Digimon partners, but the last track is a
short audio drama, which is essentially a conversation between the DigiDestined (Davis/Kari) and their Digimon partners.
KARI: Kari apologizes to Gatomon for taking up her time at piano practice and for always bringing Gatomon along. Gatomon, of course, doesn’t mind. She is there to support Kari
and will help her achieve her future goals, even if it means singing as much as Kari wants. Kari probably works towards her goal to become a kindergarten teacher. As for working in
a kindergarten in Japan (and likely in many other parts of the world), it’s not strictly required to know how to play the piano or any musical instrument, but it is often considered
an advantage. Many kindergartens incorporate music activities as part of their educational programs, so the ability to play an instrument can be beneficial when applying for a job.
Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning Audio Drama 1/3 - Daisuke’s First Step! The Motomiya Noodle Shop Opens for Business. (デジモンアドベンチャー02 THE BEGINNING オーディオドラマ 1/3)
DAVIS, KARI: The story starts with Davis creating a delicious ramen for V-mon, and he wants everybody to try it. He is now a licensed chef and dreams of having his own ramen shop,
but he doesn't know how to start. V-mon advises him to ask everybody for some help or advice. When Davis asks others for assistance, they open his eyes to what he will need in the future
to open his own shop, including the costs of buying his own place and everything necessary for his business to run.After reviewing his financial status, they advise him to start saving since he is spending too much. Everyone offers decent advice on how to make more money and save more effectively. V-mon then suggests to Davis to ask his current boss to give him his place, but everyone knows this won't happen since nobody just gives away their restaurant.
While they are talking, Davis's boss overhears the conversation. The boss suggests that Davis use or rent his restaurant during off-hours—like at night, in the mornings, or during
holidays. Davis decides to take the offer and starts his business one day per week. He names his business Yamatoya Ramen, a name seen in the movie, dedicated to Akatsuki Yamatoya,
the writer for both "Last Evolution Kizuna" and "The Beginning." And that's how Davis starts his own ramen business.
Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning Audio Drama 2/3 - An SOS to Our Brothers! Takeru and Hikari’s Secret Mission?! (デジモンアドベンチャー02 THE BEGINNING オーディオドラマ 1/3)
KARI: The story starts with Ken, T.K., Kari, and their Digimon partners ordering some food and drinks. A little drunk, T.K. and Kari begin telling Ken about their secret mission
during the incident with Lui-kun. The two of them were on contact duty, trying to reach Tai and Matt. Tai was working in a Digital World-related department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and had learned about anti-Digimon weapons. Unsure of whom to trust, Tai contacted Matt for help. Together, they discovered where the weapon was being kept. Izzy analyzed the weapon, and they
leaked the information to Matt's FBI friend, who pressured the government from the outside.
Despite this, the weapon was still unleashed above Tokyo, targeting Ukkomon. Matt and Tai were there, trying to protect Ukkomon and the 02 kids. Ken was shocked to hear about all this
happening while they were trying to save Ukkomon. However, Kari and T.K. then admitted they were just making things up to see if he would believe them. They had indeed tried to contact the
01 kids during the Ukkomon incident, but the things with Tai and Matt never happened.
Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning Audio Drama 3/3 - To Our Future! (デジモンアドベンチャー02 THE BEGINNING オーディオドラマ 1/3)
DAVIS, KARI: The story starts with Lui waking up, thinking he is in Odaiba. He is then greeted by his younger self, who tells him that he will always be there and can't just be
thrown away. The younger version of Lui also mentions that he has brought some guests, the 02 kids. They begin criticizing Lui and Ukkomon for their behavior.Lui tries to defend himself, but the 02 kids are quite judgmental about his and Ukkomon's actions. Ukkomon attempts to defend Lui, apologizing for his actions and expressing a desire to disappear, which Lui adamantly opposes. While Lui and Ukkomon support each other, Ken and Wormmon appear to rescue Lui from the dark place he finds himself in.
The younger Lui tells him that he represents his guilt and will always be a part of him, but if Lui wants to move forward, he has to do it together with everyone, including Ukkomon.
Lui then returns to reality, where Davis and the rest of the 02 kids are. They are a bit worried about him but encourage him to hang out with them, making everything feel right again.
